Give the Gift of a DIY Kit

DIY embroidery kit gift If there’s someone in your life who likes to make things, why not give them a present that includes all the materials they need for a craft project? This way, the pleasure of receiving a gift can last longer than the time it takes to open it.

The kit could be for any type of craft: If they like scrapbooking, assemble a collection of stickers and embellishements. Stamping — try a few stamps, ink pads and some blank cards to create designs. For quilters, put together a package of coordinating fat quarters with a few essential tools. The options are limited only by your imagination.

Whatever the craft, the trick to assembling a DIY kit that doesn’t just look like a bunch of materials thrown together is to package it all nicely.

For example, shown here is an embroidery kit that includes a selection of threads, a hoop and some plain white children’s T-shirts on which to embroider some designs. The T-shirts are rolled and line the bottom of the box, with the threads laid out in a rainbow on top; on top of it all lies a hoop.

As you purchase the materials to go into your kit, consider how they’ll all work together. How will they look together and how will they fit together in the package? For example, I selected the thread colours specifically to look nice together. And select a box or other container that fits it all and perhaps even complements the theme (you may want to do this first so you know how much space you need to fill).

Whoever the lucky recipient is, they’ll be sure to appreciate the thought you put into bringing it all together.
